Carbon Net Zero Policy

In line with the governmental efforts to commit to reducing carbon footprints, PEC Ltd are dedicated to do our part and to help make the world a better place. We understand that no matter how large or small your business, we can all make a difference for the better.

We have spent time identifying our current carbon footprint that we leave as a business, along with highlighting the key areas that we can make immediate improvements. These are separated into two sides for our business: our offices and our site works. We then established which of these could be implemented immediately in order to begin to offset our carbon detriment immediately.

We have implemented the below actions already:

  • All lighting within our office has been replaced with LED equivalents and strict policies implemented with regards to electricity usage (I.E not leaving computers on unnecessarily). We have managed to reduce our electricity usage by 64% so far and are always looking for ways to improve this further
  • We are currently reducing our use of paper by moving our internal processes to be fully digital. In particular we are switching to the use of digital signature software to eliminate the need for printing-signing-scanning processes that are pervasive throughout many businesses
  • Our policy with clients on construction works now is to offer only LED solutions and using energy saving initiatives such as adaptive dimming to maximise the use of natural light within buildings wherever possible, and timer-based controls for lighting and heating.

PEC ltd has put in place plans for our next steps with a view of reducing our carbon impact by half by 2030 and then to zero by 2050. By 2025, we will purchase a building to be utilised for our office space to move away from rented space. This will give us the flexibility to control all aspects of our emissions, including:

  • Utilising an efficient heating system, including timings & temperatures
  • Installation of a smart meter
  • Ability to deal with suppliers directly
  • Provision of additional insulation to building
  • We will locate this in line with our office staff and introduce a cycle to work scheme
  • Installation of renewable source of energy (solar)

By 2030, we will replace our entire fleet of vehicles with electric only vehicles. We have highlighted this as our highest priority item, as our vehicles are currently causing the most damage to the environment. We have upgraded to Euro 6 vehicles throughout already to ensure we have minimised this currently and have already begun to replace vehicles with electric equivalents. By 2030 we commit to having an entire electric fleet.

We are constantly reviewing new technologies that can be implemented on our jobs and keep involved with the electrical industry. We encourage all of our employees, partnering companies and sub-contractors to join the IET and carry out CPD in these areas to stay up to date with any new ways we can look to make a greater impact on decarbonising the planet. We do however understand that as it stands, we cannot reasonably ensure that our carbon footprint is brought to zero immediately. With that in mind, we have found alternative methods to offset our carbon footprint and have engaged another organisation who are planting trees to reduce net emissions and at the same time, increase biodiversity.
